Ever since my early twenties I’ve had issues with sleep, with doctors using a variety of methods to assist, including diet and exercise to little avail.

Recently, I bought Apple’s latest release Apple Watch, the series 8, for its sleep tracking abilities. For the past month I’ve been tracking sleep with the Watch and utilising the sleep mode features across all Apple devices to wind down each night rather than toy around on the iPhone until just before sleep.

What has been most interesting in having the Watch and tracking my sleep this past month is the difference between my being in bed and actual sleep, some nights the differences could equate to several several hours, whilst others just 10-20 minutes. There was little I could do to account for nights where I just couldn’t wind down, however, generally observing the winding down time has helped and I think sleep improved somewhat. Doubtless continued practice will assist with improving routines.
