Apple Watch 8

My new Apple Watch 8 arrived earlier than expected on Friday, this time I decided upon a black casing where past watches I’d chosen silver models. This I accompanied with the RED band which pops against the black casing.

My older watch, which I’ll keep, a series 5, is still fast and was by no means in need of replacement, however, it was the sleep tracking features in the series 8 that spurred me to upgrade.

Sleep tracking

It has been interesting to see so far how my night’s sleep has tracked. Last night has more REM blocks than the night before but not necessarily greater duration. I’m keen to see how taking my melatonin tablets nightly might affect as I often forget to take them.

Apple does provide recommended supporting apps though I’m skipping for now, I don’t feel a need for yet another subscription. None really seemed to provide any compelling reason to buy them from screenshots.

Fast charging is welcomed, though of course you don’t get supplied that 20W charger needed (or one at all for that matter). Thankfully I already own two from other devices so no need to (get screwed for) buy another. The slightly larger screen, though minimal, seems to offer a noticeable increase in button size which is good for larger finger sizes.

Having two devices now I really like the auto switch functionality, I know when I had the series 2 and purchased the series 5 I don’t think this existed and swapping between was more painful; I ended up gifting the series 2 to my then 10 year old niece whose eyes totally lit up at receiving it.
