Apple releases

A raft of announcements from Apple overnight with the next generation iPhones, Apple Watches and updated AirPods Pro.

Most exciting I think was the iPhone 14 Pro range and how Apple has transformed a cutout in the screen into something entirely different, using software in iOS 16 to embrace it and give it life, I honestly considered upgrading as I just loved it. I’m going to hold out I think for the iPhone 15 in hopes it will bring the switch to USB-C as mandated by Europe.

The update to AirPods Pro brought a new transparency mode, adaptive, though I have to say I would have liked to see some enhancements in the microphone. On Father’s Day, I called my father from a busy and particularly noisy Shopping centre fully expecting the noise might get cancelled out, for me background noise was filtered out, for my father not so, he struggled to hear me throughout the call. Had I not ordered food I might have had the opportunity to get up and leave, but I had and was forced to sit it out. This, am disappointed to not see improvements in this area.

I currently have the Apple Watch 5 which still works perfectly, and has been an excellent upgrade over the Apple Watch 2 that I had previously. Today’s announcements for Apple Watch were enough to convince me to upgrade, though I think I’ll still keep the 5 so I have all-day access. The sleep monitoring of the 8 series was greatest attraction for me, an area I’ve long had issues with, only this morning waking at 2.30am. Sadly, the mammoth size of the 49mm Apple Watch ultra was just too big, though I’m not really the target as I’m not likely to scale Everest it drive to great depths any time soon as per Apple’s video. It is huge on the wrist, I’d kill to see a woman wearing it, it would look comical, like oversized jewellery.

I look forward to arrival of my new watch later this month. A new iPhone maybe next year, with updated connector let’s hope.
