Foggy

A few weeks ago a 15 year old back injury decided to flare up again, and is continuing to affect me as I write this almost three weeks on. In the past it would only affect me around the anniversary of the injury’s occurrence for several days, for some reason not this time.

The pain caused this time around has been particularly intense, Saturday week ago I awoke and went to get out of bed, the day before I had been feeling much improved, but this morning it took ten minutes to make it out of bed, and another ten when I went to lay back down. I was so lucky my physio had an appointment free at his other clinic that day, the first time since the original injury I’d sought treatment.

The intensity of pain this time has led to a side effect I’ve never experienced before, brain fog. I only knew of this because of those who’d had COVID mentioned something similar. Today was my first day back at work, a difficult day as it was the longest day sat upright since the injury returned. Despite having to deal with the pain, IT was also having to cope with this condition and people talking to me and ensuring I remembered what was being said. My supervisor said something to me when our director called, I actually don’t remember a single word said, just that he was there; frustrating.

I wish I knew how long this might be with me, I have decided to withdraw from further studies for the year as I cannot afford to have it impact me academically too.
