I’m not one for driving much, if it’s longer than 15 minutes I’m well known for reconsidering whether I want to do it. Occasionally I do shock and do a long drive, though only occasionally.
Since buying my new BMW I haven’t done a single long drive that necessitated using cruise control, so I had no clue the previous owner was a tight wad; they wanted to avoid paying tolls over east where the car was originally from.
I had to drive an hour to catch up with my niece who’d flown in from Sydney, dinner at a location I barely knew how to locate, a good opportunity to test out the car’s navigation system for the first time. I sent from the phone my destination ahead of time and on the day selected and was off.
As I started driving rather than telling me to take the turn towards the freeway it wanted me to go inland; I ignored and headed for the faster route. This keep occurring as I headed down the freeway: “turn left in 300m” a common command as I kept driving. I couldn’t interact with the car to tell it to stop avoiding motorways, as I was sure this was the issue, but tried via voice commands to achieve this – navigation ended was the unintended result; thankfully I was able to resume as I needed it to continue not knowing the end point.
Arriving at my destination I was quick to turn avoid motorways off within settings, we don’t have reason to avoid these here given they’re free. Thankfully I had some vague knowledge of where to exit the freeway, otherwise I’d never have known when to do so given constant requests to do so.
