Having bitten the bullet and switched to Android for my mobile phone it is now I am noticing just how much I am locked into the Apple ecosystem.
This came as I went to download an iCloud app from the Google Play store so that I might upload and download files at will, much as I do from my Windows 11 computer. A search ended in frustration, Apple does not provide such a download as it doesn’t wish to support a competing platform, this despite providing Apple Music for download; this difference there is Apple earns a buck from Apple Music.
I’m now debating whether I just moved so my files across to Google Drive and drop the level of iCloud storage I retain from 2Tb back to 200Gb as I’m not using anywhere near that amount, and don’t need all the other services in getting in Apple One Premier tier.
I’m also having to think about the entirety of my lock in too, accessing Apple services then has them send a request to devices to authenticate you’re authorised, which requires an Apple device not an Android. I also cannot stream from my Pixel 6 to either HomePod Mini, that’s limited to an Apple device.
Though I like these devices, their limitations mean I can no longer truly enjoy them and would probably be best placed to sell and get something that supports my new ecosystem.
