With the introduction of iOS 15 came new features to protect users privacy. Sadly, these features are still in beta and I’ve found them less than stellar, turning them off as they often significantly slow traffic more than they ought.
Despite turning these features off performance of Safari has continued to be affected in iOS 15, this easily compared by loading the same website in a different web browser which often loads a good deal faster.
Today, browsing sites during a power outage, Safari’s performance was akin to wading molasses. I initially tried Google Chrome, however, performance was similarly dreadful. I’d heard people mention DuckDuckGo and decided to investigate for myself.
DuckDuckGo was as others had described it, fast, committed to its user’s privacy, and has built-in ad blocking. It’s hard to knock its speed, I don’t have a comparison between it and other browsers, only observation on various sites which seems so much more snappy; I wonder if not having to load ads contributed so much to this?
It’s a browser worth checking out, my only gripe is it didn’t offer to import bookmarks like other browsers do.
