Selling up: Part 2

I’m not sure what things are like in your part of the world, but here in Australia there’s a service called Gumtree I’ve avoided after initial poor experiences. Not because of the site itself, but because of those who frequent it. Basically, you advertise on it for a given price, they then all will you sell for half that and do you deliver; sorry, do I look like Amazon?

I mentioned in my original Selling up post last week how I was going to give Facebook’s Marketplace a go after recommendations from a few people. I’ve since abandoned, it would seem it’s the new Gumtree. In the space of a few days I’d received fake offers, one from someone named Dernavi Apfeluser (guessing German for the navy Apple user), and a number of annoying queries who just assumed I’d take lowball bids on a barely used machine. I also had marked it non-contact in the ad, which another user completely ignored, asking to drop by, ugh!

Back to eBay, though I’ve swapped tack and gone with an auction once more instead of a fixed price as that utterly failed last time. So far it’s going gang busters with 4 days yet to go. I’ll credit eBay users with at least being serious purchases, even if it does mean waiting to get paid in the end 😫
