It’s as well my subscription to Adobe Creative Cloud was set to expire next month as I’ve truly had my fill of the suite in the past few months. It has always been a staple install on my computer, however with the release of Big Sur things really took a downward turn and Adobe was just caught unawares.
The past few months I have had repeated requests from the Adobe CC app to install an update to itself, the notification would appear over and over like that nag you cannot silence. Eventually, like them, it goes away, but not before you’re well and truly annoyed. Adobe notified me that my (old) credit card details would need updating if my subscription was to continue, bless the Chinese who several years back ripped me off $320 (bank reclaimed!), as now I don’t need to worry about my subscription auto-renewing.
Instead, I have now replaced Adobe Illustrator with a $38.95 one-off cost on the Apple Store for Affinity Designer, not a 100% match I know, but a pretty damned good alternate. And tonight, I’ve replaced Adobe Photoshop with an app I haven’t used for many years, GIMP, short for GNU Image Manipulation Program. Years ago I’d played with this program, I didn’t much like it back then as all the dialogs were independent of the main window which annoyed me greatly, thankfully that’s since been rectified.
Well, I’ve procrastinated writing my assessment long enough, back to uni work now. Check GIMP out if you want a powerful Photoshop alternate.
