Recently I had been convinced to swap from Google Chrome to Microsoft Edge, the latter apparently better at memory management on the Mac. It worked nicely, that was until I went to sync bookmarks between my various devices.
On Sunday, I had decided to rework my bookmarks given I am now studying Cyber Security and would need many more bookmarks and folders for this area. Previous bookmark folders I had accumulated over many years were no longer going to be that important, so could be ‘tucked away’ for that rainy day. On my MacBook Pro I set up the new structure I wanted and filed all as I wanted it, it looked like a dream. I then made the grave mistake of opening Edge on my iPhone, it having an older list of bookmarks, upon which the two sets merged.
Aaaargh! There was no way for me to roll back bookmarks to an earlier date/set as I once could have in the days of XMarks (oh heck I miss that!). I remembered at that point that my iPad Pro had been sync’d with the newer bookmark structure, thus I logged out of the profile on both MacBook Pro and iPhone and headed to the iPad Pro. My heart sank, the sod had sync’d where I had been forced on the iPhone to manually do so. I logged out and headed back to the MacBook Pro to fix things up.
Upon getting things back to where I was happy I exported and have returned to Google Chrome where I’ve never had a problem keeping things in sync since using profiles. I don’t notice a means there either of being able to roll bookmarks back, which would be good, a pity. Once bitten, twice shy, hey!
