This movie almost passed me by for I’d neither seen a preview nor heard mention of it. I was searching for something to watch this weekend and noticed it in my cinema app and to be honest at first glance I looked past it unsure of it. Later I returned, deciding this time to watch the preview video and decided it might be worth checking out, but first I would drop by Rotten Tomatoes to see what reviewers and users had rated it, both had scored in excess of 90%, this was surely a winner.
A Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood stars Tom Hanks as Mr Roberts, a much loved children’s entertainer who is to be interviewed by jaded Esquire magazine writer Tom Junod (Matthew Rhys). Tom is sceptical that anyone could be as nice as Roberts and sets out to try find that angle so he can pen his hard hitting piece he’s known for. Soon enough Roberts is peeling aways Junod’s layers and getting to his truth and begins to help him in his own life.
This is truly a feel-good movie that you can’t help but enjoy, I certainly did and very much agreed with the high ratings assigned on Rotten Tomatoes, it is a wonderful piece of story telling and understanding of relationships.
